Underrated is an understatement. Toyota quoted numbers- 382 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque

Porsche, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes seem to claim horsepower under “the worst case scenario” which means that under normal conditions, they’re making way more power. Th is is a BMW so it makes sense it would be the same.

That’s not to mention McLaren, which basically only sells 800 hp cars and just prints different numbers on the brochures lol.

The Supra continues to be a frustrating car. The 2020 was down on power vs. the US spec Z4 M40i (its power numbers were more in line with  the Z4 M40i in other markets) and had handling issues on rough roads. Toyota then gives the 2021 presumably the same tune as the US spec Z4 M40i, and fixes the suspension, infuriating 2020 owners.

But they’re still using the old iDrive 6 infotainment which doesn’t support Android Auto, even though the Z4 has iDrive 7 which *does* support AA. On top of that, the aerodynamics are such that driving with the windows down produces such ferocious buffeting that it’s basically only possible to open the windows half way without being assaulted.

Hmmm. I take a lot of dynos with a grain of salt. Too many variables depending on who is operating it. I’ll withhold my judgment until we start seeing trap times.

In most tests, the current supra traps about 112-113 mph. Which for a 3400 lb car, is probably 320whp to 330whp.

If the car really makes 380whp, I would expect trap speeds close to 117 mph or more.

Not exactly apples to apples, but a 991.2 C2S makes about 380whp, weighs 3400lbs, and traps over 120 mph with ease

Toyota is stuck when it comes to infotainment. It’s not that they don’t wan’t to give Supra buyers Android Auto - they just can’t.

They agreed to using the previous versions of BMW’s iDrive , in exchange for developing the Supra with BMW.

It’s similar to the agreement Aston has with Mercedes.

I suspect their agreement is structured so the Supra doesn’t become better than the Z4. That’s the only thing I can think of for the less power issue.

It was my understanding that Toyota chose to use the older iDrive “for reliability” because it’s been out longer and had time in service. Not sure if there’s an Aston Martin MB COMAND situation going on. But the “for reliability” story could be cover for that agreement.

Yeah, that does  look like a PR response more than anything else.

You bring up a good point. It was at Livernois Motorsports and they advertise the use of a Dynojet, which does read a bit higher. It would be interesting to see what the car does on a Mustang dyno.

I didn't catch the first time that it was done at Livernois (I have it muted). That shop is pretty reputable in the Mustang community, so I assume/hope they at least had it properly calibrated and they weren't cranking the happy-customer settings on it. Unless C&D wanted them to assist in click bait.

They need to bump up the output by 50% to get my attention. From 2 pedals to 3.

Being a BMW is totally fine, BMW’s made the most “Supra” cars of the last 2 decades ever since they made the N54 motor. A sports car like this needs a stick shift.

Yea my local performance shop uses a AWD Mustang Dyno which is one of the hardest to make power on. So the numbers im used to are a little skewed.

I almost wonder if its like BMWs  shitty rollout of carplay. we’re going to fit it in a bunch of packages, but make you pay us extra to activate it.
